The sound of fast hoofbeats, labored breathing, and the wet crunch of leaves filled the otherwise tranquil forest. Racing across flatland was fun and all, but nothing beat the dangerous gallop through trees. The dark coat of the young stallion was lathered in sweat as he darted in and out of the opposing statues. Long skid marks told of his passing here and there, accompanied by the strong scent of disturbed earth. Not once did the stallion slow. This silent wood was currently his playground, and none would come between him and his fun.
Piccolo had only been on the isles of Azura for about a month. The other locations where horses seemed to thrive were either too hot or too cold for the stallion’s liking. That mountainous place had seemed likeable, but once his hooves touched the sands of the coastline, he decided he wasn’t going to leave. Azura was such a beautiful place, and after a quick check, it almost seemed as if he had the whole place to himself. A little lonely, he had to admit, yet not completely undesirable. Until others arrived, it would be his domain, and while he enjoyed the thought of a pretty thing racing alongside him, he could deal with being alone for a little longer.
After another few minutes of his little race, Piccolo slowed to a canter before falling into a brisk walk, though it was more of a prance than a walk. His tail drooping over his back, the young stallion grunted loudly. The best thing about Azura was the lack of terrifying predators. No, that wasn’t quite right. Piccolo had seen a few bears moseying about, and he could smell the wolf pack that roamed the isles as well. He just hadn’t actually encountered the beasts yet. Maybe they were frightened of him, despite the fact that he was alone. He certainly wasn’t frightened of any of them. He had taken down his own father a year ago. A bear or wolf would be much easier.
Deciding that he was, in fact, alone, Piccolo came to a standstill, shaking his body with a low groan. He was hot, sweaty, and a bit parched. Water was nearby; this wasn’t his first race through the trees; and a quick stop would do him some good. With a decided snort, Piccolo started off again, his pace slow yet precise. As the small brook came into view, he paused, surveying the area for signs of predators. They had yet to become a threat, but it was a precaution that would save his life one day. Chestnut eyes scanned twice, thrice, four times. Nothing. It was safe. His head shot down in a flash, greedily sucking in the cool water. Piccolo let out a content sigh, eyes fluttering shut. Oh yes. This was living.

The sea had been such an unforgiving bitch and the blood red mare was less than thrilled. It had rolled and hurled the water all around when Velocity had decided to test it's waters. It had sprayed bitter water into golden orbs and stung her nostrils repeatedly. It was a good thing she had been an unforgiving and just as gritty. She had made it to the shore of the island, at last, and found that it was of decent nature. However, there was something unsuiting as well and Velocity promised that she wouldn't stay long. Maybe a night to regain some energy and then in the morning she would be back to residing at the castle. A grand place that she had come across and decided to make it a kind of home for herself. Snarling and grumbling, Velocity drug herself onto the shore and heaved out a sigh of annoyance. Water was such an awful substance. She shook out her slim form, sending water droplets flying. Staring at the forest before her, Velocity regarded it with a demented look of hatred. She could already smell various other animals. A sickening smile took to her maw. Let them try their best, she figured. Velocity would destroy them if they tried such a thing as attacking her. Veo wasn't going to be someone's midday meal.
It was moments later that Velocity was traveling through the woods at a brisk pace. A beautiful mx of Thoroughbred and Marwari, she was slim enough to fit through trees, but her trot ate up ground. Her bloody red pelt began drying, thank god, and she felt herself lightening up a bit or at least getting in some better mood. Four ivory white socks, all now cleaned from her recent swim, made her muscular limbs stand out even more. Each white stocking faded into black fur that then receded to red. A thick, silky mane trailed down either side of her neck, going about half way on either side. Her neck was arched like a boa, curved gracefully to sit high on her shoulders. An ebony tail, the same texture as her mane, grew to mid hock and bounced loosely with each step taken. Her hooves touched the earthy floor, but only for seconds. Each step was airy and nearly unheard though not completely silent. Straining forward, Velocity could hear water running distantly. A drink of something pure instead of salty sounded charming.
Weaving in and out of the trees, like a ballet dancer, Velocity was lost in thoughts before arriving to the stream. She bent her neck down and pulled water in. It poured down her throat and into her stomach. It was cool enough that she could nearly feel it the whole way. A smirk danced on her maw, however, as her gaze was lifted and a black stallion stood in her line of sight. Whether he saw her or not, Velocity took a few strides toward him in a snake like manner. In her eyes, it was clear she was unafraid. Nothing ever shook up her and rarely ever did she not take control of a conversation straight away. " Why, hello." Her lyrics rumbled in her throat. Her voice was highish, but husky. If Veo had been a singer, she would've made a good one with those vocal cords. " I am Velocity and you are?" She batted those eyes at him all while smiling and holding firm to a mask of innocence.

At the slight sound of rustling, Piccolo’s ears swiveled about, trying to pinpoint the location. His head remained bent, however, as his thirst overpowered his apprehension. But when the source of the sound could not be determined, he lifted his head with a snort, looking around warily. He was unafraid of whatever approached him. In fact, he almost looked about him in a challenging manner, daring the foe to appear and threaten him. Be it a wolf, a bear, or some other large predator. He would stand his ground and fight to the death.
Which was pushing it, of course, as Piccolo had no desire to die. And seeing as he had nothing to fight for at the moment, a fight to the death was sort of...stupid. But the Standardbred stallion was feeling pumped after his race. He felt he could take on the world and win.
He just wasn’t expecting the world to send a mare to do its fighting.
As the vibrant red form came into view, Piccolo couldn’t help but stare. It had been some time since he had seen another, let alone a mare. She was beautiful. Vibrant red body. Shockingly bright white markings. Long flowing mane and tail. A shudder ran down the stallion’s body. Instinct told him to greet her, to show off a bit, to do something. But he was hesitant. For all he knew, this mare could be nothing more than a delusion, his strong desire for company playing tricks on his mind. So he merely stood there, staring at the lean beauty before him.
After a short drink, the mare lifted her head, locking gazes with him. The look sent a shock through his body. She then began approaching him, slowly, precisely. He remained where he was, lifting his head just a bit to show his courage. If she was a delusion, he would bring himself out of it one way or another. He wouldn’t allow his mind to control him so. Yet as she spoke to him, Piccolo knew that she was no mirage. Her voice was a little husky, like one who had just braved the unforgiving sea to venture to the island. Piccolo remembered his own journey to the isles, and let out a sigh of relief. She spoke once more, offering her own name before asking for his. It even appeared as if she were flirting with Piccolo. Who was he to resist?
“Piccolo,” he replied, puffing his chest out proudly. He tilted his head slightly, taking a cautious step towards her. “You wouldn’t happen to have brought company? It gets mighty lonely out here.” The words had a slight double meaning to them. While he would have been more than pleased to hear that she brought friends along (especially if they were as pretty as she), he was just as pleased to think that they were the only two on the isle. With no escape, aside from a plunge into the ocean. “You must be tired from your swim, Velocity.” He got an odd thrill saying her name. “Won’t you rest a bit?” He was more than willing to watch over her sleeping form. For as long as he possibly could...

He seemed... thrilled by the idea of company and Velocity only held her unwavering smile, more than happy to comply. She instantly saw that he was high on himself. Not in the worst way, no doubt, but in a way that he thought he could take care of himself through anything. Velocity would be more than happy to prove him wrong on that or perhaps feed his image even more. Velocity would decide this later when she figured him out more. That was her 'thing.' She loved figuring equines out, and even building them up... or tearing them down. It all mattered on how they treated her or what Velocity wanted. Her father had taught her to be selfish, to destroy anyone she could just because she could. It was a twisted way of living, but the chances of her ever changing was low..
" Ah, well the pleasure is all mine, Piccolo." She chuckled lightly, an airy laughed. Velocity smiled more fully now before shifting to face the water more head on. Veo would give him all the thrill he could ever want and probably even more. She could take him on adventure. " Unfortunately, I haven't. Have you?" Company with Velocity? She would never bring someone along for just some kind of company. Company could be found anywhere if she felt a need for it and she didn't. Ever. " I'm not sure anyone could've made that journey. It was nothing short of long. " A faked a weaker smile to show that she had truly taken a beating from the swim when in all reality it hadn't been bad at all. Velocity had only hated, no dreaded, water. It was a disgusting substance that if she didn't need, would never touch it.
" Ah, but I am fully rested. Maybe sometime later I will rest. " She winked playfully at him before taking a step toward him and bumping his shoulder lightly. " So what is there to do on the island? I suppose you would know this place better than I." Velocity grinned at him before taking a few strides away and looking to and fro, searching the woods blankly. Her dome turned around to peer back at him for a moment before chuckling and continuing to walk off a little ways. She moved slowly, however, like a feline that stalked her prey. Her movements seemed unplanned, but they were precise in each step taken. Her ears flickered around, wondering if he would step in behind her and share a plan that would lead to adventuring the island, or perhaps he would say he was tired and he wanted to rest in which Velocity would stick around to rest as well. There wasn't many times when she could sleep without having to constantly listen.
