As she lay, stuck between the living and the dead, a horse appeared to her, lifting her head, the filly stared into the blank whiteness and then a whinny echoed toward her, and a horse stood before her. What are you doing here youngling? You haven’t even started life, but there is so much more you could do. Struggling to find her voice, the filly, Iaculi answered him, Somehow, I can’t get out of this space, something’s holding me back. As the filly stared, he disappeared back into the whiteness. Wait! How do I…but he was gone. With a whimper, Iaculi tried to figure out how she could get back to the real world. Then a warm breeze blew over her and then the whiteness became the green of the real world. In the real world, the ragged pair of mustangs had given up hope on the filly but then a soft whinny caught their attention and the mare spun quickly and galloped back to the filly she had presumed dead. Then her mother cleaned her up prayed and thanked her Deity and then got Iaculi up and began to nurse. The herd was shocked, a filly born dead was brought back to them, by nothing but the force of will of the filly herself. As she grew, Iaculi became more and more independent and by the age of two she was striking out on her own. By the age of three she had joined a herd of her own, six months later, she was bringing into the world, a foal of her own, a beautiful colt, with the markings and attitude of his American Paint X Arabian father and his mother’s street smarts and stockiness. As he’s only a year and a half old, he has not done much yet but he’s trying his best to get acclimated to his mother’s world…while still trying to learn everything he can about his father, who had abandoned them a year ago. For now, all Nanook is doing is trying to have fun and learn whilst doing it.
